Thieves don’t
want to leave a trace, and a stolen item with an EYE-DEED photo
and number is easier to trace back to the owner and possibly to the thief.
An EYE-DEED agent will come to your home or business and photograph
your belongings. The agent will also place an identification number on items
you select, making them traceable through every police department and all 116
pawnshops in Utah.
You’ll also receive a
CD containing high-resolution photos, which identify your belongings
for police or insurance agents.
You’ll also receive notices
to place at the entrances to your home or business, notifying intruders
that the valuables inside have been photographed, registered and are
traceable.
When items stolen
from your home are recovered by pawnshops or police, they will contact EYE-DEED about
the item’s engraved or photographed number. We’ll give you
their contact information so you can recover your property.
Security
All EYE-DEED agents have undergone a thorough background check
and will be wearing a photo ID when they come to your home or business. EYE-DEED agents
do not keep any photos or descriptions of your belongings. EYE-DEED headquarters
stores only a list of identification numbers that enable us to identify the
owners of recovered stolen property when contacted by the police or pawn shops.
Some of our
Methods
• Engraving or Etching
Engraving or etching is suitable for many hard surfaces and can be done using
an electric engraving tool or a hand engraver. This method leaves a visible
and permanent mark.
• Ultraviolet
or 'Invisible' Marking
Our Ultraviolet (UV) pens put an invisible mark on your property which can
only be seen by using a UV lamp. We use UV marking when other methods would
reduce the value of the object. The mark can fade in time, especially when
exposed to sunlight, and can be washed off, so we use a special UV coating
over the top to seal it.
• Ceramic Marking
We use ceramic marking pens to mark china, glass or any glazed surface. They
do not cut or scratch the surface but leave a permanent mark.
• Punching
We can mark heavier metal items such as lawn mowers with a hammer and a set
of punches.
• Child EYE-DEED
cards.
• Sandblast
A portable, hand held sandblast device can be used on some materials.
• Wire Wrap
A sealed number is placed on a wire inside electronic devices.
Where we mark your
property is important. We choose somewhere behind or underneath the
article - but not somewhere so hidden that the police would not be able
to find it.
Marking items like jewelry or antiques is difficult and could reduce their
value. We are experts in these cases and use invisible methods.
We still protect items that can't be marked by making a photo record of them.
We photograph each item, in high resolution color, paying special attention
to any distinguishing marks such as initials or crests which may be used to
identify the item. We take the photographs against a plain background and include
a ruler to give an indication of size.

You Keep a Record of your Property
You keep the list of items you have marked and where the marks are. We also
offer a service to keep a copy in our fire vault.
Advertising the fact that your property has been marked warns off` thieves.
We do this by placing notices at your entrances stating your property has been
EYE-DEED.
